Education at Oakwell
The Community Sports & Education Trust works in partnership with the Study Support Centre to provide a variety of learning opportunities and activities linking sport and education.Through this initiative we offer a wide range of rewards, incentives and the opportunity to meet professional footballers. This is a great initiative to encourage young people to work hard and sustain good attendance. The Community Trust Scheme and the Study Support Centre has many partnerships with both the public and private sector, particularly Barnsley LEA, the DfES and is fully supported by Barnsley Football Club.
Activities Include :-
'Playing for Success' After School Sessions
"Playing For Success" is a nationally recognised after school learning programme in place at a range of professional sports clubs around the country aiming to establish an innovative programme od work to support pupils accross the ability ranges. This is offered to all Barnsley schools four nights each week and is aimed at making learning fun and helping pupils to get better grades. The sessions take place in the state of the art ICT Study Support Centre here at Oakwell.
Pro-Sport Healthy Lifestle Courses
The project is part of the South Yorkshire Pro-Sports and Education programme. The programme has been developed over 18 months with the support of the four local authorities in South Yorkshire and the professional sports clubs in the area. The programme is delivered by the Community Trust, Study Centre and Sports Active Limited, an on-line learning provider.
This is an exciting programme of work to support and engage pupils in a creative learning environment. The day is split with on-line learning delivered by the Study Centre staff in the morning, followed by the Junior Football Organisers qualification organised by Football in the Community in the afternoon.
Family Fun Days
This activity provides learning games and challenges, stadium treasure hunts, ground tours and ball handling skills finished off with small tournament style mini games on the Academy astroturf. The day provides the opportunity for families from all areas of Barnsley to engage within the Football Club and are organised through the fourteen local Neighbourhood Learning Nets.
Open Day
To bring whole class groups to Oakwell as part of their learning about their local community and a chance to get an insight into what Barnsley Football Club can offer, while learning in a fun, safe and exciting environment. Drop in Coffee Morning sessions. For parents and families of pupils on the after school 'Playing for Success' sessions.
