Fit For Football

‘Fit for Football’ is a Football League Trust funded pilot project that is being delivered locally by the Trust.

Barnsley are one of 22 Football League clubs whose community programmes were successful in applying to run a Fit for Football pilot project. With this funding the Trust through its Community Coaches will be able to deliver the Fit For Football project to 10 local primary schools.

Fit For Football focuses on changing the attitude of young people (and their parents) to healthy eating and the benefits of regular exercise. It also features a range of fun activities and games that teach about the dangers of smoking and alcohol.

The initiative is being coordinated by the Trusts Community Health Officer Darren England. Darren said: “It’s great to be involved in such a need led and topical project. We are in the early stages of its delivery but so far feedback has been really positive from schools, children and parents. He added: “So much has been made of local children’s health but through my role meeting other partners in the health sector and the community sports network lots of positive things are happening in Barnsley to get children more active and healthier. Through projects like Fit For Football the future looks really positive for local children.”
