A large part of the Trust's work focuses on building links with schools. The schools coaching programme has been developed to deliver high quality curriculum time activities but also provide out of school opportunities for children to engage in extra curricular clubs.

Curriculum Sessions

Barnsley F.C's Community Sports & Education Trust's extensive in-school programme works in partnership with approximately 25 primary schools within Barnsley and the Dearne each year.

Around 7000 children benefit from fun coaching sessions delivered by FA qualified staff. The coaches are qualified to deliver football sessions in curriculum time that compliment the PE syllabus as Key Stage 1 and 2.

With health high upon the Governemnt's agenda, these school activities are invaluable as they provide an opportunity for all youngsters, whatever their abilities, to enjoy exercise based activities in addition to their existing timetable. The positive outcomes are that the children will have the additional means to improve fitness, learn new disciplines and understand the importance of exercise.

They will experience the benefits of participation in team sports and develop new skills which are transferable to their recreational activities with their peers or indeed their families. The sessions enable teachers to have PPA or alternatively, for those who want to be involved, it provides the opportunity for them to gain knowledge of new ideas and approaches.

These sessions are often supported by Barnsley players which provides added enjoyment for the children taking part.

Extra Curricular

Barnsley FC Community Sports & Education Trust delivers extra curricular clubs to schools outside of the school day.

Schools and children benefit from quality FA qualified coaching within a familiar and safe environment. These sessions can be delivered either before or after school, and are open to boys and girls of all abilities. The programme can run over four to six weeks or can be tailored to meet the schools needs.

The clubs provide a positive recreational base from which the children can enjoy physical exercise and the benefits to health that this promotes. It also provides an opportunity for children to learn about further activities available on offer via the community programme.
